Bank Stabilization EA

The National Park Service (NPS) is proposing to reconstruct and stabilize the eroded shoreline at Cane River Creole National Historical Park. Four conceptual design alternatives are being considered for the proposed project. Each alternative involves the removal of vegetation currently existing along the lake bank, restoration of the bank slope, and installation of a stabilization material along the toe of the bank. Following construction, the Park would restore the natural appearance of the area by replanting with native shrubs, grasses, and small trees. The NPS has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to analyze the environmental consequences associated with the proposed bank stabilization project on physical, natural, cultural, and human resources, visitor use and experience, and park operations. The EA is now available for public review and comments will be accepted through January 20, 2010.
