Finding of No Significant Impact for Horizontal Directional Drill

The National Park Service (NPS), Natchez Trace Parkway, would like to announce the availability of a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) with regard to installation of a sewerline near milepost 99.8 in Madison County, Mississippi. An Environmental Assessment for the Horizontal Directional Drill (EA) was prepared in cooperation with the NPS, and analyzed two alternatives. The analysis resulted in selection of the environmentally-preferred alternative, consisting of installation the gravity sewer main under Parkway property utilizing HDD technology. This technology has been successfully used to place gravity sewers in areas in which it was imperative to keep surface disturbances to a minimum. This gravity sewer line is part of the White Oak Creek Sewer Interceptor project the City of Ridgeland is building in order to service the growing area of western Ridgeland, while reducing dependence on high-maintenance and energy-dependent pumping stations. The NPS concluded that this alternative best balances the needs of the neighboring public and the resources of the Natchez Trace.
