Facilities Improvements Descriptions

The Facilities Improvements Project includes the following:

Rush Landing:

1. Construct pedestrian trail up the hill from the ramp so that foot and vehicular traffic do not overlap.
2. Make drainage improvements to the exit road from the ramp.
3. Widen road that leads to Clabber Creek and the Bowman Tract past Rush Landing.
4. Construct turnaround approximately 75 to 100 yards down Bowman road using the old power line right of way.
5. Remove power line to the Bowman Tract.
6. Add parking spaces for concessionaire buses in the old powerline right-of-way.

Spring Creek Trailhead:

1. New parking area for up to four vehicles adjacent to the road just inside the BNR boundary.

Hasty Landing:

1. Reconstruct canoe walkway to reduce bank destabilization at the launch site.
2. Restore social trails and install devices to direct foot traffic down canoe walkway.
3. Remove two large trees and slightly expand parking area to improve vehicle maneuvering and increase parking space.
4. Re-grade parking area to improve control of stormwater runoff.
5. Install modern bathroom facility slightly uphill from the existing facility, above the floodplain.
6. Construct pedestrian trail in the woods beside the entrance road to facilitate easy access and alleviate foot and vehicular traffic overlap.

Lost Valley Trail:

1. Upgrade a section of the lower trail to make it compliant with standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
2. Improve and stabilize the remaining trail, which leads beyond the falls to the cave and the return trail from the cave.
3. Secure stone steps and remove trip hazards such as rocks and roots.
4. Install buried pipes or stone culverts to improve drainage crossings.
