Public Scoping Newsletter
Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park is undertaking a planning and environmental impact analysis process for Protecting and Restoring Native Ecosystems by Managing Non-Native Ungulates. The purpose of the plan is to refine strategies for managing non-native ungulates to support long-term ecosystem protection; recovery and restoration of native vegetation and other natural resources; and protect and preserve cultural resources.
The document below is the Public Scoping Newsletter. Scoping is an effort by the NPS to elicit early public comment regarding the full spectrum of issues and public concerns, the nature and extent of potential environmental impacts (and as appropriate, mitigation measures), and all feasible management alternatives which should be considered by the planning team in preparing a Draft EIS/plan. The newsletter contains an overview of the background and scope of the project, the purpose of and need for action, objectives of the plan, and preliminary management concepts. The newsletter also includes information on how to comment and the dates, times, and locations of public meetings associated with the scoping effort.
