Navajo Generating Station Water Intake Project

SRP received a signed FONSI on July 5, 2005 for an Environmental Assessment (EA) completed in March 2005. The preferred alternative was the construction of a vertical shaft with lateral microtunnels. During construction in 2006, it was determined this alternative could not be constructed due to the presence of unanticipated geological formations. In the current EA, SRP has proposed and analyzed as its preferred alternative construction concept that was rejected under "Alternatives Considered but Dismissed" in the original 2005 EA. This concept would involve the construction of 5 inclined shafts using directional and conventional inclined drilling methods.
