Suitland Parkway Trail Extension and Naylor Road Safety Improvements EA - Public Review

The National Park Service invites public comment on an environmental assessment for the Suitland Parkway Trail Extension and Naylor Road Intersection Safety Improvements project.

The proposed project involves extending the Suitland Parkway Trail and implement several intersection improvements to address issues with pedestrian safety and connectivity. The purpose of the project is to close key gaps for pedestrians and cyclists traveling between nearby communities and the Naylor Road Metro Station and enhance safety at the Naylor Road intersection, while protecting the parkway's historic and scenic character.

The environmental assessment describes the alternatives for the proposed project and analyzes potential issues and environmental impacts on the park's resources and values associated with implementation of project alternatives. The National Park Service prepared this environmental assessment in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related Department of the Interior regulations. Concurrent to the NEPA process, the National Park Service is engaged in consultation to assess effects of the proposed project on historic properties under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.

Comments on the proposed project and environmental assessment will be accepted through March 27, 2026. The public is also encouraged to provide input on the proposed project's effects on historic properties as part of the Section 106 process. Comments can be submitted via this website (preferred method) or mailed/hand-delivered to park headquarters at the address listed below. All hard copy comments must be postmarked by March 27, 2026, to receive consideration.
