Tassi-Gold Butte Herd Management Area Wild Burro Gather Plan Final
This Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared to analyze the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and National Park Service (NPS) Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument (GCPNM) proposal to gather and remove wild burros from within and outside the Tassi-Gold Butte Herd Management Area (HMA). The gather plan would allow for an initial gather, as well as future gathers, to achieve and maintain appropriate management levels (AML), which was set to zero in the 1998 Arizona Strip Resource Management Plan Amendment Mojave Desert Tortoise Habitat Management (1998 Mojave Desert Tortoise Amendment) (EA-AZ-95-01) to implement the 1994 Desert Tortoise Recovery Plan. The 2008 GCPNM Resource Management Plan/General Management Plan (RMP/GMP) carried forth both the 1998 BLM decision and the1995 Lake Mead Wild Horse and Burro Plan decision and is the guiding document. The proposed gather plan would remove wild burros from both the Tassi-Gold Butte HMA and greater Pakoon Basin area where wild burros are not authorized.
