CLR Newsletter

The National Park Service (NPS) is preparing a Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) for two parcels the NPS is in the process of acquiring. The cultural landscape includes the Josiah S. Wallis House, which served as the temporary headquarters of Union Major-General Oliver Otis Howard and a field hospital for both Federal and Confederate
soldiers, as well as a hill that provided key terrain for Confederate earthworks and a Civil War signal station. The CLR will provide strategies for preservation, wayfinding, interpretation, circulation, facilities, and landscape management.

This newsletter outlines the purpose of the project, key issues, potential management strategies, existing conditions, and the planning process and timeline.
