Ghiglione Bridge Replacement EA

The National Park Service proposes to replace Ghiglione Bridge (mile 41.9) of the Denali Park Road. The proposal includes constructing a new bridge approximately 70 feet upstream (north) of its current location, which is closer to the historic road alignment, and then removing the old bridge. The proposed action would modify the roadway adjacent to the bridge (approximately 300 feet in total length) to soften the approach angles of vehicles entering and exiting the bridge and increase sight distances.

The Environmental Assessment analyzes the no action and one action alternatives. Resource issues considered include cultural resources, recreation, soils, soundscape, vegetation and wildlife.

The anticipated construction timeline for replacement of the Ghiglione Bridge would extend through two summer seasons and is scheduled to begin in 2021. Year one would include construction of the new bridge and year two would include demolition on the old bridge.
