Valles Caldera National Preserve - Management Zoning

Valles Caldera National Preserve » Valles Caldera National Preserve - Management Zoning » Document List

Valles Caldera National Preserve undertook a management zoning effort in 2021 to initiate the process of exploring a variety of desired future resource conditions and visitor experiences to be achieved and maintained in geographically distinct areas of the park. Initial zoning ideas were presented to the public for review in April of 2021, and two scoping meetings were held to provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about the management zoning process, ask questions, and provide feedback.

The public comment period closed on May 5, 2021, and we received more than 200 correspondences. Thanks to those who have engaged with us thus far! Your input helps us better understand a range of perspectives on what the public values and envisions for the park. Feedback received was used to translate initial zoning ideas into draft zoning concepts, which will be further developed through a general management planning (GMP) process, which the park initiated in 2022. Please follow the Valles Caldera GMP project website to learn about this effort and receive updates, including opportunities to engage and provide input on the plan as it develops (the project website can be accessed via the 'links' tab on the left menu bar).
