An Environmental Assessment (EA) was prepared to study potential effects related to implementing the Facility Revitalization Plan, which will occur in multiple phases over 20 years or more. The park sought public comment on the Facility Revitalization Plan and Environmental Assessment from August 16 to September 14, 2022. Additional project information is available in a storymap format for viewing here: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/389151a4e32b4662a256b541634f3503
The park hosted two public meetings on August 23 and 24, 2022, and the public was invited to attend one or both of these meetings to learn about the plan and EA.
A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was developed following the public comment period and was signed by the NPS Midwest Regional Director (Interior Regions 3, 4, and 5) on November 2, 2022. The NPS selected Alternative 2, Implementation of Facility Revitalization Plan. Public comments are summarized and addressed in the FONSI.
