White River SR 410 Flood and Erosion Protection

Mount Rainier National Park » White River SR 410 Flood and Erosion Protection

The National Park Service (NPS) has prepared an environmental assessment (EA) evaluating a proposal from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to address near-term flooding and erosion risks to State Route 410 (SR410) within Mount Rainier National Park by installing two engineered log structures within designated wilderness. The project would address risks to the highway between milepost 58 and milepost 60. State Route 410 is directly adjacent to and within the floodplain of the White River in this area. Several locations along SR 410 have been damaged by past flooding. The proposed project is intended to preserve access to and through Mount Rainier National Park via the northeast entrance of the park.

The environmental assessment is available on the project website under "Open for Comment." Public comments on the EA will be accepted from April 30 through May 29, 2026.
