The National Park Service is seeking public comment on an environmental assessment for proposed utility and roadway crossings and a visitor trail at Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument.

The proposal would involve the NPS working with the City of North Las Vegas to acquire an existing easement from the city that currently bisects the monument. In exchange, the city would obtain easements providing access and utilities to a planned community that is surrounded by NPS-managed land. The proposed exchange also includes construction of a trail that would provide visitors access to the monument in a manner that protects park resources.

The environmental assessment provides a decision-making framework that analyzes all reasonable alternatives to meet the objectives of the proposal, evaluates potential issues and impacts to resources and values, and identifies mitigation measures to lessen the degree of extent of these impacts.
