The National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management have prepared a Comprehensive Administrative Strategy for the Old Spanish National Historic Trail. The plan will provide general guidance for trail administration.

The trail crosses through or near public lands under the administration of:

6 States, including 23 BLM field offices
2 National Park Service regions, including 11 park units
15 National Forests
1 US Fish and Wildlife Service national wildlife refuge

In addition, the trails crosses hundreds of miles of state-managed, tribal, and private lands.

The Comprehensive Administrative Strategy for the Old Spanish National Historic Trail has been completed by the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. It has now been implemented to guide the administrative efforts of both agencies along the trail
