Pipestone National Monument » Pedestrian Access Plan » Document List

The National Park Service (NPS) at Pipestone National Monument, proposed to construct a pedestrian access trail into the park from the nearby city owned road. The NPS completed the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Environmental Assessment (EA) process on July 26, 2023, at the conclusion of the 30-day public review period of the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) which was signed on June 22, 2023.

The purpose of this project is to provide safe pedestrian access into Pipestone National Monument while also protecting the park's fundamental resources and values. The need for safe pedestrian access is to ensure safe pedestrian and vehicle access to the park. Current use of the entrance road by pedestrians has led to safety issues for visitors.
