Fire and Vegetation Management Plan

The National Park Service (NPS) invites you to review and provide comments on its Environmental Assessment (EA) of potential impacts of a new Fire and Vegetation Management Plan for New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River.

The NPS is soliciting comments on an EA, under the National Environmental Policy Act, which assesses the potential impacts of the Fire and Vegetation Management Plan. The EA outlines the proposed action, alternatives, potential impacts, best management practices, and mitigations to reduce impacts. Comments on the EA will be accepted from August 28 through September 30, 2024.

While you can ask us in your comment to withhold personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.

The NPS will respond to all substantive comments received during the review period. Substantive comments are those that:

1. question, with reasonable basis, the accuracy of information in the EA;
2. question, with reasonable basis, the adequacy of the environmental analysis;
3. present reasonable alternatives other than those presented in the EA; or
4. cause changes or revisions in the proposal
