Description:
The National Park Service has initiated planning efforts to replace the observation room of the visitor center with a larger multi-purpose room. The Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument's Interpretive Prospectus states that the park's purpose is "To preserve and protect the historical and natural resources pertaining to the battle, and provide visitors with an improved understanding of the events leading up to the battle, the sequences of activities by both military and Native American contingents on June 24-27, 1876, and the historical consequences of the results of those fateful days." The visitor center was constructed in 1952 for an annual visitation of 100,000. Today, the annual visitation has risen to about 400,000. The visitor center does not have a space large enough to show the park’s film nor an all weather location to accommodate visitors for any interpretive presentations. The current situation is unsafe and visitors to Little Bighorn Battlefield NM are not receiving a quality National Park Service experience. This interim project is viewed as a short-term solution to an immediate problem and is not intended to disrupt meeting the goals established in the General Management Plan.

Meeting Directions/Instructions:
We will meet in the Visitor Center in the Observation Room.
