2026 White River State Route 410 Flood and Erosion Risk Reduction Environmental Assessment
The National Park Service has prepared an environmental assessment (EA) evaluating a proposal from the Washington State Department of Transportation to address near-term flooding and erosion risks to State Route 410 within Mount Rainier National Park. As described in the EA, two engineered log structures would be installed within the White River floodplain. The engineered log structures would be installed outside of the current road prism within the adjacent Mount Rainier Wilderness. The proposed project is intended to preserve access to and through Mount Rainier National Park via the northeast entrance of the park.
Public comments on the EA will be accepted from April 30 through May 29, 2026.
