Ambler Mining District Industrial Access Project EEA

Gates Of The Arctic National Park and Preserve » Ambler Mining District Industrial Access Project EEA » Document List

The National Park Service (NPS) is currently accepting public input on a Draft Environmental and Economic Analysis (EEA) prepared in response to a right-of-way application submitted by the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority as part of the proposed Ambler Mining District Industrial Access Project. Approximately 20 miles of the proposed road crosses NPS lands in the western (Kobuk River) unit of Gates of the Arctic National Preserve. Two alternative routes across NPS lands were identified in the project application materials. The Draft EEA examines each of these routes.

The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) requires that right-of-way access be permitted across NPS lands for this project. In addition, ANILCA Section 4(d) directs that an EEA be prepared to: 1) determine the most desirable route across NPS lands, and 2) develop appropriate terms and conditions for the right-of-way permit.
