Arkansas Post National Memorial » Emergency Storm Clean-up » Document List

A line of severe storms with extremely high wind gusts occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2020, causing extensive damage to ARPO. It is estimated that over 100 trees are down at the Memorial Unit; the Menard-Hodges Mounds at the Osotouy Unit was not impacted. The nature trail located on the southern tip of the peninsula at the Memorial Unit appears to have the most damage. As of Wednesday, April 15th, the park remains closed due to safety concerns, power outage and downed trees across roads and trails. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, staff and clean-up crews are very limited at the park. Photos, maps, and additional information coming soon.

Update: Another round of storms came through on Sunday, April 19th, causing one tree to fall on the wood shop in the maintenance yard. This buildings was constructed in 2005 and is not considered historic at this time. Only minor damage to the roof occurred.
