The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is proposing to increase the overnight camping fees at Rivers Bend Group Campground and Valley View Group Campground and to add these sites to the reservation system at Recreation.gov (https://www.recreation.gov)
to allow for online and call center reservations.
The proposed changes would go into effect in January 2019 and include:
• raising the campground fee from $30 to $100 per campsite, per night at Rivers Bend Group Campground
• raising the campground fee from $30 to $100 per campsite, per night at Valley View Group Campground
• changing the means of reserving a group campsite to using the website Recreation.gov or their call center at (877) 444-6777
Rivers Bend Group Campground is located in New Jersey, just off of Old Mine Road and close to the Flat Brook and Delaware River. It has five campsites that each include fire ring, picnic table, bear proof trash containers, and food lockers. Each site can host approximately 25 people. Potable water is available, and there are vault toilets centrally located at the site.
Valley View Group Campground is located in Pennsylvania, just off US Route 209 and adjacent to the Delaware River. It has five campsites that each include a fire ring, picnic table, bear proof trash containers, and food lockers. Each site can host approximately 25 people. One of the sites is compliant with the Architectural Barriers Act ("accessible"). Potable water is available, and there are vault toilets centrally located at the site.
The park recently conducted a campground fee comparability study. Based on the results of that study, the park is proposing the fee increase to more closely align with fees charged for other group campsites in the area. Moving the current group campground reservation system to Recreation.gov will enable campground reservations to be made either online at Recreation.gov or by calling toll free (877) 444-6777. Recreation.gov charges a fee for its reservation service: $6.50 for an online reservation and $8 for a call center reservation. The service fee would be included within the overall fee of $100, and will not be an add-on fee.
At Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, 100% of the group campground fees stay in the park, with the exception of the Recreation.gov reservation fee, and are devoted to spending that supports the park visitors, including upkeep and maintenance of the group campgrounds.
