Replace window in Guest Room in Lincoln Home (HS-01) due to rot

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Replace window in Guest Room in Lincoln Home (HS-01) due to rot » Document List

The upper sash on an approximately 15-year old window in the Guest Room in the Lincoln Home (HS-01) has rotted due to improper drainage and sun damage. The window faces due west and is subjected to all weather directly with no further protection. The sash does not drain water off correctly, causing it to retain moisture. A new upper sash will replace the upper window in-kind using mahogany wood. A drip line will be added to the underside to the sash to aid in drainage. All parts of the window that can be salvaged, including the glass panes, will be reused. If panes need replacement, modern glass made to resemble slightly wavy historically accurate glass will be used.
