Tree Coring in Carrigan Lot (Block 10, Lots 6 & 7)

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Tree Coring in Carrigan Lot (Block 10, Lots 6 & 7) » Document List

Certified arborist will conduct increment coring using a Pressler borer to estimate the ages of two persimmon (Diospyros virginiana L.) tress located in the lots immediately north of the Lincoln Home. The trees have been observed informally since the early 1970s by the arborist, and their sizes have not changed noticeably. There is a possibility that the trees could date to Lincoln's time, and if not, they are possibly some of the oldest trees in the park.

Visitors frequently ask if any trees in the park are from Lincoln's time and due to their proximity to the Lincoln Home and their size, these trees are often singled out for this question. This project would help to answer the question and improve interpretation of the site as a whole.
