Sand Island Cultural Landscape Report

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore » Sand Island Cultural Landscape Report » Document List

The National Park Service is developing a Cultural Landscape Report for some of the historic landscapes on Sand Island, which had the largest and longest-lasting Norwegian farming and fishing community in the Apostle Islands Archipelago. This study will provide park managers with an understanding of the evolution, historical significance, and existing conditions associated with important NPS-managed landscapes, with the primary focus on East Bay and the Hanson Farm areas. The project will also identify sustainable landscape maintenance treatment options for some of these parcels.
