EUREKA - Shore After Car Deck and Repair Tongue and Groove Sole in Hold #5

San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park » EUREKA - Shore After Car Deck and Repair Tongue and Groove Sole in Hold #5 » Document List

This project will address two preservation issues aboard the 1890 ferryboat Eureka: loss of structural integrity in the after car deck stair box (due to rotting of horizontal deck beams), and local areas of rot in the wood tongue and groove sole (tween deck) in Junior's Hold. Treatment for the stair box will involve installing stout, but temporary vertical stanchions (shores) attached to temporary dual strong backs and sister beams. Treatment for the tongue and groove will intail focussed demolition and replacement in kind of the sole, and adding supporting stanchions under the sole frame. Throughout the project, preservation treatments (including Sodium Borate) will be applied.
