The Visitor Center (VC) at the Chalmette Battlefield was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina flood waters and had to be destroyed. The National Park Service is proposing to replace the destroyed structure with a 3,500 square foot building that will enhance visitor experience and interpretation of this historically significant site. An Environmental Assessment has been prepared to effectively evaluate alternatives associated with this action. Public comment is being sought regarding this proposed action.
