US Coast Guard Rescue 21 Communication Site

The US Coast Guard has requested a Right of Way permit for a communications installation in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The proposed site located in the Deception Hills area of the National Preserve will provide communication capability for the Fairweather Banks area of the Gulf of Alaska. A typical installation consists of a 60' self-supporting tower with microwave dish, generator shed, fuel and battery storage, communication shed, wind generator, solar panel array, and helicopter landing pad.

The NPS and USCG prepared an Environmental Assessment that considered a range of alternatives and analyzes the consequences and effects of each on park and preserve resources.
