North Rim Recovery Plan
Grand Canyon NP » North Rim Recovery Plan
The National Park Service (NPS) is preparing a plan to provide long-term guidance for the management of the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. We need your input to help shape a shared vision for the future of the North Rim and help inform long-term redevelopment concepts and ensure a wide range of perspectives are considered.
On July 4, 2025, a lightning strike ignited the Dragon Bravo Fire, burning 149,399 acres across the Kaibab Plateau, including 71,129 acres on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The Dragon Bravo Fire changed the North Rim developed area, resulting in the loss of cherished buildings and damage to critical infrastructure. While those impacts were substantial, the landscape is already showing signs of natural regeneration. The NPS is committed to rebuilding the North Rim thoughtfully to honor its history while ensuring the developed area meets the needs of visitors, employees, and park operations in the 21st century.
The National Park Service is seeking feedback on a vision and draft redevelopment concepts that will guide the long-term recovery of the North Rim following the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire. Beginning October 6th, the public can review the planning materials, including the project purpose and goals, an update on the recovery progress-to-date, a draft vision for the future of the North Rim, and three preliminary redevelopment concepts, on the project website at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/NorthRimRecoveryFall2026. Comments should be submitted through the project website as well. The public involvement period will remain open through November 6, 2026.
Throughout the month of October, the National Park Service will provide multiple opportunities for the public to learn about the planning effort and provide feedback, including virtual and in-person public meetings. Meeting dates and additional details are available on the project website at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/MeetingNotices.cfm?projectID=138278.
