West Entrance Station Improvements

Glacier National Park » West Entrance Station Improvements » Document List

Dear Friends:

Enclosed is Glacier National Park's Environmental Assessment (EA) that analyzes proposed improvements to the West Entrance Station to enhance the flow of traffic, visitor experience and the working environment for park employees. The West Entrance Station is the primary entrance to the park from the west and receives heavy use during the summer months. The existing entrance station and approach lanes are often insufficient to handle traffic volumes during peak summer months due to the narrow approach to the entrance station, which often causes lengthy vehicle backups. In addition, the expected increase in construction traffic during rehabilitation of the Going-to-the-Sun Road could cause further congestion at the entrance. Modifications are also needed to address: handicap accessibility and lack of an employee break room, formal employee parking and adequate storage. The building also does not meet required security standards for fee collection sites.
