Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial Accessibility Self Evaluation and Transition Plan (SETP)

The draft Accessibility Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan for Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial is now available for review. The preparation of an accessibility self-evaluation and transition plan is mandated by regulations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as they apply to the US Department of the Interior. Public entities are required to evaluate their current programs, policies, and practices dealing with accessibility and to develop a strategy for making the necessary changes to improve them.

This plan addresses how to enhance physical and programmatic accessibility to ensure people with disabilities are provided the opportunity to have more equivalent park experiences. Baseline data is collected to identify all park areas, the core park experiences, and visitor services, activities and programs associated with park areas. Site visits are conducted to assess existing accessibility of priority park areas and to identify solutions that could provide better access to people with disabilities. Implementation strategies with target timeframes and priorities for removing barriers are created, addressing improvements needed for people with mobility, vision, hearing, intellectual and developmental disabilities. Site plans with annotations and the initial implementation strategy spreadsheet help guide the park in incorporating universal design and accessibility principles in planning, developing, and constructing projects, and in delivering products and services.
