The National Mall and Memorial Parks (NAMA), with the U.S. Park Police (USPP), proposes to install a bicycle storage structure and maintenance area screening at the USPP D-1 Substation, located on Hains Point in Washington, DC. The existing bicycle storage in the substation basement was recently eliminated due to staff space needs, and currently the bikes (approximately 40, with more anticipated) are being stored on the portico of the building in a way that is cluttered and lacking in both security and weather protection.

After evaluating several alternatives, NAMA and USPP propose to install a shed or a pair of storage containers adjacent to the existing evidence storage shed and fuel station. In order to screen the new and existing facilities from visitors using the pool to the south and golf course to the north, the project would include an aesthetic, hardwood screen around the facilities and and increased vegetation along the north side of the station parking lot.
