The Nation of Japan has offered the gift of a landscape enhancement project at the Japanese Stone Lantern on the Tidal Basin, in commemoration of the centennial gift of cherry trees from Japan to the United States (1912- 2012). The United States intends to accept this gift, and the National Mall and Memorial Parks, a unit of the National Park Service, will coordinate with the Japanese embassy to complete the project. See "Document List" for more information on the proposal.
