The National Park Service (NPS) proposes to rehabilitate U.S. Reservation 28, which is managed by the National Mall and Memorial Parks, a unit of NPS. This triangular park is located between 21st and 20th Streets, NW, on I Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. The park is currently experiencing erosion and social paths, and park features are in need of repair. The purpose of the project is to improve existing conditions and preserve the character of the L'Enfant era reservation.

This project includes: (1) a new fence on the west side, which will match the style of fencing used at U.S. Reservation 29, directly across Pennsylvania Avenue; (2) new trash receptacles, relocated to the edges of the park; (3) bench repairs; (4) updated water irrigation system; (5) turf restoration to stabilize erosion and remove social paths; (6) four new trees along the southern edge of the park; and (7) repairs to the sidewalk and the existing quarter-round curb as needed.

The NPS will accept written comments regarding planning efforts and potential impacts to historic resources or visitor use for the proposed project through 11:59 p.m. on February 17th. The most efficient way to submit public written comments is via this website. Click on "Open for Comment" on the left. You may also submit comments by fax to (202) 426-0099 (ATTN: Kristen Murphy, Reservation 28 Park Rehabilitation Project).

The work is expected to be completed in 2012.
