The National Park Service proposes to install a temporary modular office unit at the Park Headquarters for the National Mall and Memorial Parks (NAMA), located at 900 Ohio Dr., SW, Washington, D.C. The area of potential effect includes the fenced/enclosed area of NAMA Park Headquarters. Due to existing site conditions visibility is limited; therefore, the area of potential effect is confined to the fenced/enclosed area of NAMA Park Headquarters (see attached photos). The temporary office unit is proposed to be placed in front of the Park Headquarters "Annex" building (i.e. the historic U.S. Engineer's Storehouse). The project is necessary as the Park Headquarters requires additional office space to accommodate new staff. The existing facilities are at maximum capacity and do not have the space required for additional staff. The park is presently working with the NPS National Capital Regional Office on planning for permanent office space. The temporary modular office unit at Park Headquarters will be removed when the permanent facilities are designed, approved, and constructed.

The scope of work includes installation of a 128 ft x 32 ft modular office trailer. The modular office will have a fire alarm system, security system, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, IT and communication lines, ADA compliant ramp, deck with roof and office furniture.

This project will remove one cottonwood tree. The project will plant a new pecan tree and 15 dragon lady hollies near the fence line to provide screening of the temporary building from Ohio Dr. (See attached site photos.) The existing flagpole will be relocated within the Park Headquarters area. This project will connect new plumbing, electrical and IT lines to the existing system.

The Park Headquarters is located in East Potomac Park National Historic District and the U.S. Engineer's Storehouse (i.e. Park Headquarters "Annex") is listed as a contributing structure on the National Register of Historic Places. The other existing temporary structures at Park Headquarters have not been evaluated against National Register criteria, but other similar temporary structures are listed as non-contributing in the East and West Potomac Parks National Register nomination. The area of potential effect is previously disturbed/ developed land and there are no identified cultural landscapes within the Park Headquarters area.
