Guided backcountry mountain bike tours have been determined to be necessary and appropriate at Canyonlands National Park. These tours have been provided in the park since 1992. The current concession permits will expire on December 31, 2006.
The park proposes to release a prospectus seeking up to five qualified concessioners to provide this service, issue new concession contracts, and manage services under new ten-year concession contracts. The new contracts will authorize essentially the same services that are currently authorized. Backcountry use, including this service, will continue to be governed by the Canyonlands Backcountry Management Plan and other park rules and policies.
