Preserving the Wesleyan Chapel

Women's Rights National Historical Park » Preserving the Wesleyan Chapel » Document List

Thank you for your interest in the Wesleyan Chapel and in Women's Rights National Historical Park. The Wesleyan Chapel, site of the nation's first women's rights convention in 1848, has been experiencing deterioration which threatens its long-term preservation. In an effort to ensure its protection and to enhance visitor experience at the Wesleyan Chapel, the National Park Service (NPS) began to further study the issues that face this important structure. In March 2006, the NPS initiated a process to identify ideas and strategies to meet these two goals. An informational newsletter was mailed to a mailing list of several hundred people and organizations and a series of public meetings and meetings with interested parties were held to solicit ideas. Based upon information gathered through these scoping efforts, a range of alternatives for treatment of the Wesleyan Chapel was developed and evaluated. These alternatives and their evaluation can be found in "Rehabilitation and Preservation of the Wesleyan Chapel Environmental Assessment /Assessment of Effect that you find broken into chapters on this webpage. Your comments are important and can be submitted directly through this website. They will be accepted through July 13, 2007, and a public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 20, 2007, at the Park visitor center at 136 Fall Street, Seneca Falls, NY.

Again, thank you for your interest in this important project.
