Permit Stafford County to Replace Waterline and Stage on NPS Lands along Chatham Lane
Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park » Permit Stafford County to Replace Waterline and Stage on NPS Lands along Chatham Lane » Document List
The overall project involves installation of approximately 1,000 linear feet of 8-inch waterline under Chatham Lane adjacent to the existing 6-inch cast iron waterline using an open cut method. This project is not a replacement in-kind, as the new waterline will be placed in a new trench, and the old waterline will be cut, filled with flowable fill, and abandoned in place in accordance with Stafford County. The maximum trench size for installation of the new waterline will be 48 inches width and 48 inches depth. Proposed activities will be conducted by a contractor for Stafford County and include trench excavation, pipe laying, backfilling of trenches, and staging of equipment and materials. Equipment and materials will include an excavator, bobcat skid steer, trench rollers, dump trucks, and pipe material. The County estimates five individuals on site in two trucks for a duration of up to one month. After waterline installation is complete, the road will be restored to previous conditions in the same footprint by pavement mill and overlay, according to VDOT guidelines. Ground disturbance on NPS lands involves the installation of approximately 55 linear feet of new water line, at about approximately 225 square feet.
The proposed staging area is a lot located bounded by Chatham Heights Road to the south, Chatha Lane to the west, and Pratt Street to the north. This was the site of a 20th century house (Cymrot House), garage and two large chicken coops. The NPS razed those structure in the early 1990s. For the proposed staging area, the county/contractor will provide matting to avoid rutting and other ground disturbance. Turf will be repaired in kind using a general contractor seed mix, unless otherwise directed by NPS.
