Horsfeld Concession Camp Move
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve » Horsfeld Concession Camp Move » Document List
Horsfeld Creek has repeatedly flooded portions of Petersen's facility compound and associated structures; some of which are unusable during flood events and may soon be destroyed or become unusable. Flooding adversely effects the viability of his operations and the visitor experience. Petersen has proposed to rebuild and/or relocate his operations facility which would allow him to continue conducting essentially the "in kind" level of services at one of two nearby upland locations: either on a terrace immediately east and overlapping in part with the present camp or alternatively on a bench adjacent to and northwest of Horsfeld Creek channel.
This environmental assessment (EA) will analyze proposed actions, alternatives and potential impacts to cultural and natural resource values which could result from the proposed action. It will be prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 and regulations of the Council of Environmental Quality (40 CFR 1508.9).
