Proposed Changes to Fee Structure CY 2008

Assateague Island National Seashore » Proposed Changes to Fee Structure CY 2008 » Document List

In accordance with the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act of 2004 (REA) and National Park Service policy, the National Park Service (NPS) is soliciting public participation to determine appropriate rates for recreation and use fees at Assateague Island Naitonal Seashore. Recreation and use fees are retained by the NPS, and at least 80% of fees collected at Assateague Island National Seashore are retained for in-park projects such as repairing and maintaining visitor facilities and administering permit programs. Increases to fees provide funding to help sustain those projects and programs.

As responsible stewards of Assateague Island National Seashore, park staff routinely engage in market research to ensure fees are comparable with similar services and markets. Based on current market research, the changes are proposed to take effect January 1, 2008. The NPS encourages public feedback to help us gain a broad and diverse perspective in order to make well-informed decisions about how to proceed with the proposed changes.

Please see the associated documents on this site for a complete description of the proposed fee changes. Should you wish to provide us with feedback, you may do so by either using the commenting capabilities of this site or by contacting Debbie Morlock at the address below.

We appreciate you taking the time to assist us in preserving the resources of Asssateague Island National Seashore

Sincerely,

Scott J. Bentley,
Superintendent
