The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP will be issuing a special use permit to The Bassett Rescue of Old Dominion for a charity event, raising money for homeless dogs. The event participants will walk their bassett hounds on the park's towpath on May 27, 2007 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 noon. The event will start at the Cushwa Basin in Williamsport Maryland and proceed upstream to the Wilson Water Plant, a distance of 1+ miles. The participants will return to the Cushwa Basin.

One hundred participants are expected to attend the event. All applicable park regulations will be followed, such as dogs will be on leash. Each dog handler will be responsible for clean-up of their animal(s).

The special use permit will govern this event. Staging and event parking will not be on park property. No exchange of monies will be permitted to occur on park property.

The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. A memo to the file has been issued.
