The National Park Service and Yavapai County are planning to widen approximately 0.48 miles of Beaver Creek Road. The intent of the project is to improve driver and pedestrian safety in areas where narrow roads and blind corners have caused past accidents. The project proposes to widen the road by cutting into the existing bank and building retaining walls. The project will have impacts to ancestral Native American archeological sites within the Montezuma Well boundary. The NPS is currently consulting with the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office and Native American Tribal Governments to develop a data recovery plan and memorandum of agreement that will guide archeological excavations in areas where construction-related ground disturbance will occur.
