The National Park Service (NPS) seeks your input on ways to improve its services and access to Nez Perce National Historical Park, Big Hole National Battlefield, and the Whitman Mission National Historic Site for those who have disabilities. Draft Self Evaluation and Transition Plans (SETP) for each park is available for comment now until October 26, 2018. The SETP will serve as a guide for improvements at the parks over the next few years.

In 2017, the NPS did a self-evaluation of Nez Perce NHP, Big Hole NB, and the Whitman Mission NHS for ways to improve services and access. Accessibility specialists, landscape architects, and park staff produced findings as well as a plans for improving accessibility at each of the three parks. The goals of the SETP process are to 1) document existing park barriers to accessibility for people with disabilities, 2) provide an effective approach for upgrading facilities, services, activities, and programs, and 3) instill a culture around creating universal access.

These draft SETP reports serves as an opportunity for the NPS to engage the public in a dialogue about how it can better serve those who face challenging access to these three NPS units. "We hope the public, and particularly those who face challenges or barriers enjoying our parks, will join us in making them better for all," said Nez Perce National Historical Park Superintendent Mike Gauthier.

Public input is an important part to the process and the National Park Service is committed to making its facilities, programs, services, and employment opportunities accessible to all people, including those with disabilities.
