The park dispatch office serves as the emergency response and operational communications call center for Yosemite, as well as Devils Postpile National Monument and Lassen National Park. Yosemite's dispatch center will soon be expanding their services to include Santa Monica Mountains National Park (SAMO). The existing facility is undersized at 1,360 square feet. The dispatch office requires additional space to effectively handle current functions as well as those required to provide dispatch for SAMO. The remodel would increase the number of work stations, provide an additional restroom, and provide a dedicated outdoor break space for dispatchers. This project will better utilize the existing dispatch office footprint and expand into an under utilized lobby area allowing for two additional dispatching stations (total of 6) and office space for the manager and two lead dispatchers. This improved layout will separate the expanded dispatch office from the daily operations area allowing for better access to bathroom and kitchen areas while employees are working alone and cannot leave the 9-1-1 and radio station. Heating and cooling systems will be upgraded, flooring and wall covering updated, new light fixtures and window coverings, as well as a whole office Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) are being added.

The project will result in the remodeling of the existing entrance lobby into two spaces. The new space would accommodate the expansion of the existing dispatch facility that is currently located adjacent to the lobby. To create the new office, the park would close off a portion of the lobby by constructing two new walls that would separate the new dispatch office area from the existing building entrance, stairs, and elevator that serves the rest of the building. The new dispatch offices would include the addition of up to six work stations, upgrades to the heating/cooling systems, and the installation of additional electrical and communications services. The existing door to the northwest side of the building lobby would be removed and refinished as a solid exterior wall to provide the necessary security for the dispatch offices.

A fenced outdoor area for dispatch employees would be added to the exterior of the building. The proposed outdoor area is approximately 1,605 square feet and would be located southeast of the alcove and would be fenced to provide a secure break space for dispatch employees. Security standards require the facility to have two lockable entry ways into a secured dispatch facility. The outdoor area would be fenced, requiring the installation of approximately 85 linear feet of new fencing that will match the existing 8' tall steel bar fencing and will form the eastern boundary. The park will install roughly thirteen posts (3 inches by 3 inches each) spaced 6 to 8 feet apart. A gate with an electronic security card reader will be installed and may require some shallow trenching within previously disturbed soils to install electrical conduit (exact location not known at this time). No additional paving will be necessary. The existing outdoor area has a seasonal lawn (no irrigation) which would be landscaped to provide privacy and shade and will require irrigation.

An NPS employee meeting held 4/3/19 briefed individuals that work in the complex on disruptions they can expect during construction (noise, temporary change in egress from the internal stairs to the external stairs while the existing stairwell is reconfigured, an addition of a fenced in area outside to provide privacy and double door barrier into the Dispatch facility). No complaints were made at the meeting and all questions were addressed. Updates on the project will be sent out to all employees via email as work begins.Concerns about reducing the number of doors that lead out from the building entrance area have been reviewed and the proposed layout meets fire egress requirements as reviewed by the Park's Fire Marshall.
