At Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, an Environmental Assessment (EA) evaluating alternatives to relocate 1.4 miles of the Portage Creek Trail is now available for public comment. The primary purpose and need of the proposed project is to provide public trail access, while avoiding trespass issues on private lands. The Portage Creek Trail is presently routed through 2 private parcels, but there is not a legal easement for public access. The preferred alternative of the park proposes to relocate up to 1.4 miles of the Portage Creek Trail onto NPS lands. Comments are open from July 12, 2019 through July 26, 2019.
