Parashant Seeks Public Comment on Monument Accessibility Plan

Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument Acting Superintendent Mark Wimmer invites the public to comment on the final draft Accessibility Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan. The public is welcome to review the draft and to submit comments over a 30-day period beginning July 24, 2017 and ending August 24, 2017.

The Department of the Interior's guidance for implementing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 directs parks and monuments to evaluate their accessibility programs, policies, and practices to develop strategies for making the necessary changes to improve them.

Instructions: For members of the public who would like to review the final draft and/or make comments, please visit https://parkplanning.nps.gov/ to access the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) system. Search parks for "Parashant" and click on the "Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan" document. For those with specific accessibility needs regarding the document, please contact project coordinator Jeff Axel at 435-688-3377.

The goal of the plan is to improve accessibility for all visitors. Self-evaluation and transition plans are intended to help identify physical and programmatic obstacles to accessibility within the Monument. An interdisciplinary park service team, including Monument and region-wide staff, identified key experiences and completed an in-depth accessibility assessment for primary visitor use areas. Implementation strategies were developed to improve the accessibility of services, activities, and programs for each location.

At the conclusion of the comment period, comments will be considered and a final plan will be prepared prior to implementation. We look forward to your continued feedback in this effort.
