Richmond National Battlefield Park plans to continue exterior restoration of the ca. 1725 "Rural Plains" house on the Totopotomoy Creek battlefield. That work involves returning the structure to its 1864 appearance without impairing associated architectural and archeological resources. The house is part of a 124-acre site connected with the Civil War battle of Totopotomoy Creek. Various components of the work include restoration of the porch on the western side of the house; adaptation of the porch and a disused entrance lane to meet accessibility standards; essential repair work to brick and wooden elements on the exterior of the building; and restoration of the roof to its historic appearance of wooden shakes.
