The National Park Service recently completed an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) for a closed county landfill that exists on park property at the park's Fort Darling/Drewry's Bluff unit. The landfill was closed in 1972 and donated to the park in 1975. Since that time numerous investigations have been conducted due to concerns over the appearance of the adjacent stream and groundwater seeps. These culminated in the EE/CA, a requirement of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). This document, which discusses the investigations and potential remediation options, will be open for public comment for 30 days starting the first week of January. The updated Administrative Record is also available for public review.
