Cabrillo National Monument (NM) is seeking input from community, stakeholders, visitors, and neighbors regarding a proposed change to park entrance fees in 2015. The National Park Service (NPS) is proposing to increase the daily park entrance fee for vehicles from $5.00 to $15.00 per vehicle (good for everyone in the vehicle,) walk-ins/bicyclists from $3.00 to $7.00 per person and motorcycles from $5.00 to $10.00. Entrance fees are valid for seven days. An increase in the annual Cabrillo Park Pass from $15.00 to $30.00 is also planned. The new fees could take effect in the summer of 2015. The NPS began collecting entrance fees at Cabrillo in 1987. This would be the first increase in over 27 years.

The park will host an Open House at Cabrillo NM on November 12, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM to provide more information on the proposal, hear comments and record input. Comments may be submitted online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/cabr between October 28 and November 25, 2014. Comments can also be submitted in writing to the Park Superintendent, 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Drive, San Diego, CA 92106 during the comment period.

80% of the entrance fees collected at Cabrillo stay at the park. These funds preserve natural and cultural resources, improve visitor facilities, and provide educational and recreational opportunities. Projects funded with entrance fees include the development of a curriculum-based education program for the San Salvador Ship Project including Park Ranger talks at the San Salvador build site; construction of restroom facilities at the intertidal area; and construction of the Whale and Kelp Forest Overlook. Projects planned for the future include installation of 38 new wayside exhibits, repair of the damaged Bayside Trail; production of a new signature film for Cabrillo; improved accessibility to park structures and resources; and an upgrade of informational displays for the WWI and WWII bunkers.

Entrance fees are never charged for visitors under 16 years of age, or holders of the America the Beautiful Pass ($80.00), Federal Recreational Senior Pass ($10.00), Access Pass (free), or Military Pass (free). The cost of these passes will not increase and all of them may be obtained at the Cabrillo NM entrance station during business hours.
