Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area » An Integrated Pest Management Action Plan for the Control of Non-native Black Locust » Document List
The National Park Service (LARO) is proposing to treat and remove this non-native stand of trees, and rehabilitate and restore native tree populations. This proposed project would take place over a 3-4 year period with rehab/replanting occuring concurrently with the removal of the Black Locust.
The primary site for this project is the Kettle Falls visitor use areas ranging from the Kettle Falls Campground on the north, past the concessionaire operated marina, along the Lions Island group campground and trail system and to the southern end of the area which includes the Kettle Falls Day Use/Swimming area and Ski Point picnic area. The total area to be treated is estimated to be just under 50 acres with the black locust ranging from large scattered older trees (40 to 60 years old) to dense clonal stands of mid-aged trees with many young trees and saplings around the outer perimeters.
