The environmental assessment was made available for public review and comment during September and October 2002. The document was announced in the Federal Register on September 11, 2002. The project predated the availability of this website (PEPC), and was posted electronically on www.potomacinterceptor.com at that time.
A public open house for the project was held October 23, 2002 at Rockwood Terrace, MacArthur Boulevard, Potomac, MD. Approximately 23 people attended the open house. Twelve public comments were received, all in favor of the preferred alternative.
As mitigation for the proposed project, two of the four odor buildings were to be designed to include public restroom facilities. These facilities would be located at Anglers Inn/Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP, and at Fletcher's Cove/Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP.
The FONSI was approved September 1, 2004.
